ABOUT US

Philosophy

Gunjock is a family-owned business based in Prosper, Texas. We offer students of all skill levels the opportunity to create their own path to firearms mastery. Our training curriculum has been developed over more than a decade, and taught to thousands of students. Our curriculum focuses on defensive principles, incorporating the best of combative firearms skills along with that of practical shooting.

Here at Gunjock, we’re big believers in the cross-training benefits of the action shooting sports. While we don’t expect all of our students to become competitive shooters, know that everything we teach here at Gunjock has and will continue to be proven in the crucible of competition. There is value to performing, under duress, and on the clock. This philosophy is even reflected on our name.

Gunjock

/guhn-jok/
Noun

A colloquial term used to refer to a shooting sports athlete. One who is highly skilled and proficient in the handling, operation, and knowledge of firearms. May also denote someone who is passionate about firearms and actively engages in shooting-related activities, such as firearms training, competition, and ongoing education.

Our Mission

We provide high-quality firearms instruction to responsible gun owners of all skill levels in a safe, supportive, and fun learning environment.

We believe nearly anyone can become a safe and proficient shooter with the right mindset and training. Shooting is a perishable skill—without consistent practice, performance fades. That’s why we focus not only on building strong fundamentals but also on guiding you along the path to true firearms mastery.

Training with us means learning skills with intention, reinforcing them through repetition, and testing your ability under pressure—on the clock, under stress, and with expert guidance every step of the way. Our goal is to help you achieve the confidence that comes with unconscious competence.

Our Values

Safety First

As both instructors and students of the gun, we prioritize firearms safety above all else. It is a personal responsibility that we unwaveringly uphold as instructors, and expect of students who attend our training classes.

Anyone Can Shoot

We firmly believe that shooting is accessible to everyone, regardless of their current skill level or physical limitations. We are committed to finding training solutions tailored to each student's needs and aspirations.

Embrace Change

We embrace the evolution of modern combative and practical shooting. We understand that the pursuit of improvement is ongoing, and we are committed to continuously adapting and refining our methods for our students benefit.

Live to Train

Our training motto is Train to Live, Live to Train, meaning that while that initial motivation for defensive training may come easy, sustainable long-term discipline requires making training enjoyable and engaging.

Sean Young Professional Firearms Instructor

Sean Young

Founder / Lead Instructor

Sean Young has been designing top-rated firearms training programs and delivering professional firearms instruction for over a decade. His courses serve students of all skill levels, with a focus on real-world application, safety, and skill development. In addition to providing quality professional firearms instruction, Sean has helped thousands of students navigate the License to Carry (LTC) process in multiple states, including California, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, and now Texas.

Originally from Northern California, Sean’s introduction to firearms began with a Boy Scout merit badge in marksmanship, followed by years as an avid hunter. After college, he pursued a career in technology and marketing, where he developed a strong foundation in adult learning through both in-person and virtual training environments.

Sean obtained his California CCW in 2011 and quickly became a dedicated student of the gun. He immersed himself in structured training at a Sacramento-area firearms academy and began competing in International Defensive Pistol Association (IDPA) matches to sharpen his skills under pressure.

His passion for learning evolved into teaching. After training with some of the top shooters in the industry, Sean went on to become a team shooter and certified firearms instructor. In 2014, he joined ONE on ONE Firearms LLC—Northern California’s leading firearms training company—as a partner and Vice President of Operations. Notably, it was the same academy where his own training began.

As a competitive shooter, Sean holds Master Class classifications in five IDPA divisions and regularly competes at the state, national, and world championship levels. He also actively participates in USPSA and multi-gun competitions.

In 2021, Sean founded Gunjock LLC in his now home state of Texas, with the goal of delivering effective, personalized firearms instruction to the North DFW area. He currently resides in Prosper, TX, with his wife and two children and holds certifications as both an NRA Certified Firearms Instructor and a Texas DPS Certified Firearms Instructor.
