Shooting the 2023 IDPA World Championships

Sean Young, founder of Gunjock LLC, competed at the 2023 IDPA World Championship fueled by Beretta, held October 12–14 at the renowned CMP Talladega Marksmanship Park in Talladega, Alabama. Representing the Pistol Caliber Carbine (PCC) division in the Expert class, Sean joined hundreds of top shooters from around the world at one of IDPA’s most prestigious events.

“This range is special to me because it’s where I first shot Pistol Caliber Carbine in a major match—at the 2019 IDPA National PCC Championship. The gun I shot this year is the very same PCC I built for that match!

This year’s Worlds was a particularly challenging match, offering shooters plenty of decisions—whether to take risky shots on tightly protected or distant targets, or move to different shooting positions for cleaner engagement. The stage design really forced you to think through each plan.

As it so often happens in the South, we had rain on one of our shooting days. I also started off rough—taking too many points down and suffering a hard fall right in the first bay. But I shook it off and settled in, shooting some solid stages from there on out.

One of the highlights for me personally was having my son Tristan there to support me as my “range caddie.” Having him at the match made the experience that much more meaningful.

This turned out to be my best performance yet at a World Championship. I finished 7th in the PCC division, 19th overall out of 385 shooters, and finally earned that elusive match bump to Master classification in PCC. A memorable weekend, to say the least.” – Sean Young | Gunjock LLC
