Shooting the 2023 Texas State IDPA Championship

Sean Young, President and Founder of Gunjock LLC, competed in the 2023 Texas State IDPA Championship, presented by Walker’s and hosted by Collin County IDPA (CCIDPA). The match was held May 26–28, 2023, at the beautiful Mission 160 range in Whitewright, Texas. In addition to competing in the PCC division, Sean also served as an Assistant Match Director, helping organize and execute the championship.

“Over the years, I’ve come to appreciate the rare luxury of shooting a major match and still being able to sleep in your own bed. My home club, Collin County IDPA (CCIDPA), hosted the 2023 Texas State Match at what has become my home-away-from-home—Mission 160 range.

This year’s match was challenging, to say the least. We had 13 tough stages and a stacked PCC field that included some of the top shooters in the country. Overall, I shot a reasonably solid match. I’m still chasing faster splits with the PCC, and I know that will come with time. A few too many mistakes kept me just outside the top 10, but I’m still proud of the result.

As a member of the match staff, I continue to be amazed at the level of volunteerism in this sport. The staff we assemble year after year at CCIDPA is incredible.
