Shooting The Western 2022 IDPA Championship

Sean Young, President and Founder of Gunjock LLC, competed in The Western 2022 IDPA Championship, held at the Sacramento Valley Shooting Center in Sloughhouse, California on April 29-May 1, 2022. Now in its 7th consecutive year, the match drew more than 180 of the top defensive pistol shooters in the country to tackle 13 challenging stages over the course of a 3-day event.

“This was the first year that The Western wasn’t a home match for me. The Sacramento Valley Shooting Center was my old home-away-from-home, and SDPS is the club where it all started for me—so returning felt both nostalgic and energizing.

Unbeknownst to me at the time, I shot this match with what I now know was a major tendon tear in my strong-side elbow. Ignorance truly is bliss. I pushed through and put down a score that earned me divisional honors—finishing 1st in the Stock Service Pistol (SSP) division, and posting the best overall score for any iron-sighted gun in the match.
